The 11th Election Committee’s Statement In Response to Community Feedback
Peace be upon you, dear brothers and sisters,
We, the 11th Election Committee, have issued a notice regarding the upcoming election. We have received some feedback from the community about certain articles. We are pleased to see that the community is paying close attention to this election. Therefore, we felt it appropriate to provide a brief explanation.
The Uyghur American Association (UAA) was established in 1998, and its bylaws were approved by vote at that time. According to those bylaws, neither the Election Committee nor members of the UAA board have the authority to unilaterally change any articles in the bylaws. Changes can only be made through a general assembly vote.
Thus, the Election Committee organizes the election according to the current bylaws and oversees the fair execution of the election, but it does not have the authority to amend the articles.
In previous elections, some articles were amended through community voting. In this election, Articles 6 and 8 are planned to be put to a vote by collecting signatures. Additionally, if there are other articles that do not align with the wishes of the community, we invite everyone to work together to propose changes.
We hope you will attend the election and cast your vote. If you have any other questions or feedback, feel free to contact us via email at:
With respect,
Uyghur American Association
